Stanford University, which has been buying solar generation since 2016, has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement for a second solar project in California.

The latest PPA is for Recurrent Energy's 63 MW Stanford Solar Generating Station #2, which the developer says is part of its Slate portfolio in Kings County, which is due to begin commercial operations in 2021.

Last month, Recurrent signed two 15-year PPA with Silicon Valley Clean Energy and Monterey Bay Community Power for 150 MW from the Slate complex, which will also be fitted with 180 MWh of battery storage (PFR, 10/30).

Stanford's existing 25-year PPA is for the output of SunPower's 67 MW Stanford Solar Generating Station in Kern County, which has been online since December 2016. The project meets more than half of the school's electric demand. The university also has 5 MW of installed rooftop solar.
