Thermal solar developer SolarReserve has appointed Tom Georgis as chief executive, succeeding Kevin Smith.

Georgis has been with the California-based company for 10 years, most recently as senior vice president leading its expansion plans across the Americas, Asia and Australia.

He led on the development and financing of SolarReserve’s flagship 110 MW Crescent Dunes project in Nevada, which incorporates 1,100 MWh of molten salt energy storage.

Georgis has over 28 years’ experience in the energy, technology, and government service sectors. Prior to joining SolarReserve, he was managing director at Globaltec Solutions. He has also held roles at Exodus Energy and Enron International.

Smith, SolarReserve's former ceo, has since moved on to photovoltaic solar developer Lightsource BP (PFR, 1/14).
