A developer has inked a 15-year power purchase agreement with NorthWestern Energy for the output of a 20 MW solar project in Montana.

The utility selected VK Clean Energy Partners' Meadowlark Solar project, near Billings Logan International Airport in Yellowstone County, following a request for proposals for community renewable energy projects in early 2018.

Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2021 with completion by the fourth quarter of 2021.

NorthWestern says it is the sixth PPA it has signed in its effort to meet the state’s Renewable Power Production and Rural Economic Development Act, which requires it to procure at least 67 MW of renewables from certified community renewable energy projects. It needs another 10 MW to meet its minimum commitment.
