German utility EnBW has opened an office in New Jersey, through its subsidiary EnBW North America, to target opportunities on the U.S. East Coast.

The company will focus on New Jersey and New York ahead of the Bureau of Offshore Energy Management lease auction for the New York Bight, which is expected in early 2020.

“With combined targets of nearly 13 GW, New Jersey and New York are poised to lead the growth of the U.S. offshore wind market,” said Bill White, managing director at EnBW North America, in a statement.

The company is also looking to support regional wind development in northern New England and recently became the first offshore wind developer to become a member of Clean Energy New Hampshire.

On the West Coast, EnBW North America is already the majority owner of Castle Wind, a floating wind project off Morro Bay in California (PFR, 6/19/18).
