Brazil's Cemig Geração e Transmissão (Cemig GT) has attracted interest from projects totaling 7GW in installed capacity for its upcoming power auction.

The subsidiary of Minas-Gerais-based utility company Cemig is preparing a power auction for November 7 that will see Cemig GT award power purchase agreements (PPAs) to solar and wind projects in the free market. Registration for the auction closed October 20.

The company will grant contracts that will kick off in January 2026 and last until December 2040. The energy contracted will be supplied to Cemig’s clients everywhere but in the north of the country.

Earlier this year, the company contracted PPAs in the regulated market through the A-4 (PFR, 9/20) and A-5 (PFR, 10/17) auctions held by Brazilian energy agency Aneel. In the A-5 auction, the company contracted 82% of the total 557.5MW of output awarded.
