Mexico, Latin America's second biggest electricity producer after Brazil, has some 36,000 MW of installed generation capacity. Gas-fired plants are the dominant generation source, providing some 22,000 MW of capacity. A further 9,600 MW comes from hydroelectric power, 2,600 MW from coal-fired plants, 1,400 MW in nuclear capacity and 900 MW in geothermal power.
