Hector Neyra, associate director of equity research for European and Latin American utilities at Bear Stearns, has left the bank, say officials at the firm. They add that Neyra, who worked out of both the New York and London offices has yet to find a new post. Neyra's departure shifts all of the firm's Latin American utility coverage to Gabriel Salas. Salas joined Bear Stearns in March to work alongside Neyra.

InterGen expects to syndicate a $470 million non-recourse loan by year-end to finance the construction of a $670 million natural gas-fired power plant in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil, says Guillermo Espiga, director of project finance at InterGen in Coral Gables, Fla. The company is in the "final stage" of selecting a bank to advise on the financing, he notes

The Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA) is considering selling a regional utility as part of plans to boost power and water desalination capacity around Abu Dhabi City.

Société Générale and Bank Muscat expect to close the Al Kamil project loan by next month after waiting for two more banks to sign up at general syndication level, says Peter Conway, project financier at SocGen in London. He declined to elaborate on the names of the banks, but says that even without them the $110 million deal was already 30% oversubscribed before it scaled back the commitment levels. "The banks involved had to scale back on the amount they [invested], to make sure the [loan] was spread out evenly," he notes.
